The heat is ramping up for us here in the Summer months in Arkansas, and we're hoping our computer fans can keep things cool while we press ahead with unoptimized demos and tests. We've now well and truly switched from the "exploration" side of preproduction to the "refinement" side, developing the prototypes and proofs of concept to stress test and iterate on our vision for this next game.

Old and Peculiar Ways - Excerpt 3: A vignette from the Worlds Across the Causeway

“Dreams provide a perspective to unseen aspects of the nature around us. In order to reveal some obscured truth, your best chance is to do so under the unobstructed view of an unfettered celestial body. If you draw an appropriate symbol (see the figures later in this text), and use the appropriate plants as catalysts, it is possible to unhinge your soul from your body and view the conduits of spirits.”

Game 2 Development Update:

With the core of the game taking shape, we're starting to see the light at the end of the preproduction tunnel:

  • More art style tests have been developed
  • We built a tech demo of our core mechanic to share with a potential funder (reminder: we are still seeking development funding for this next game)
  • The story within the story as well as our characters are coming together

The Haunting of Joni Evers is an Awards Finalist (and 30% off)!

Last week we shared that our debut game has been selected as a finalist for the Collision Awards in the Games & XR - Craft category and included with this is participation in the voting for the Audience Choice award.

Many of you have already helped us out by voting for Joni, but for those who haven't had time yet: we would greatly appreciate you (and your family and friends) voting for The Haunting of Joni Evers as part of the Audience Choice selection. Any awards we can win will improve our chances at getting funding for the next game as a show that we can make a high-quality game that resonates with our audience. Voting ends July 11th and all of the winners will be announced on July 22nd!

In celebration, we've also issued the deepest discount yet (30%) on The Haunting of Joni Evers as part of the Steam Summer Sale, so it's a great time to play it if you haven't, or share it with a friend!

The In Between Spaces: A vignette from the Worlds Across the Causeway

I voyaged into the spaces between things and encountered an invisible force that felt as a river washing me away.

I: Invisible force, how do you exist in a space like this?

The invisible force responded thus: To you I am nothing but a strange magic.

I: There is no such thing as magic.

It: Oh ye of little imagination and understanding.

Suddenly, I realized the invisible force was in fact me, and I found myself alone among the in between spaces.

We're heading back into our notebooks, sketchbooks, and game editors to keep refining and preparing for our first playtest. Speaking of: if you want a chance to be part of that first playtest, send us a message!

Until we meet again along the Causeway,

Kjartan Kennedy, Studio Director
